We were looking for new technology that’s a better indication of where things are going. Air-Motion Roasters has everything we’re looking for: from its efficiency to the way it’s designed and engineered to be super-clean. Air-Motion Roasters took roasting and designed the best possible machine with the modern technology available. The people at Air-Motion Roasters speak my language, and this is exactly what I want to be involved with. We are super-excited that this Air-Motion Roaster is our machine now.

Instead of upgrading to a larger drum roaster, we chose an Air-Motion Roaster because we got to play with it first and could see what it was. It’s sensory, it’s tactile, it’s kinesthetic. Being able to touch, smell, and see it says a lot. Seeing the amount of control we could have with the Air-Motion Roaster sold us. It turns out consistent roasts, it addresses the issue of burning, and of course, it’s much more environmentally sound.

When we were looking at roasting equipment, we knew that we wanted to be 100% electric. We also knew that we needed to have something new and different to bring to market. As we started searching for equipment that only runs on 100% electricity, it became a narrow field. That’s when we contacted Air-Motion Roasters. Once we could play with the Air-Motion Roaster and roast on it, it was a lock after that. It was a done deal. We had something different. The way the roaster takes the air and develops the beans all the way through to the middle was a game changer. When we put that into a cup and tried it, we knew this was the way forward for us.

Our clients who experienced our drum-roasted coffee and now buy our air-roasted coffee all notice a difference: that clean flavor, the pronounced flavor of the bean, all of it. Our customers are always saying that our coffee is so much more clean. That’s the word I hear all the time.

I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of use. This roaster is amazingly simple to use but complete enough to allow me to adapt and adjust the roast live — giving me complete peace of mind that consistency in my roast batches is achieved.

One of the pet peeves about drum roasters is that no matter your level of mastery, you’re always going to have some beans on the outside that receive burns. In contrast, each bean roasted in an Air-Motion Roaster is individually roasted on a pillow of air. It adds consistency all the way around, with no burning, and gives it a level of control we could only guess at with a drum roaster.

An instant start-up, immediate heat response, interaction with the beans throughout the roast and basically as simple as “plug and play.” No delays and no energy wastage! I was humbled to learn that this simple technology could, in fact, perform as well as, and even better in many respects, than any traditional ‘cast-iron rich’ drum roaster.

Well-roasted coffee is definitely in the technique of the roaster. I don’t want to take that away from anybody roasting anywhere. There’s definitely a technique to be done. Good coffee takes heart and passion. The Air-Motion Roaster, though, gives a clean taste to the coffee that I’ve not experienced in any other way. I’d like to tell my clients sometimes that “it really is all me,” but a lot of it is really this machine.

Convection roasting IS taken to the next level with much thought. I have roasted on it, and indeed it is a work of art. Seamless and intuitive software enables roasters to work with ease and achieve their desired roast in a matter of minutes.

As we’ve developed our roast profiles, there’s been a lot of customer excitement. We’re seeing the difference between roasting on an Air-Motion Roaster and traditional drum roasting methods, and it’s having an impact on the marketplace and on what people are saying about our coffee. It’s smooth. It tastes like coffee. It doesn’t have burnt or bitter tasting notes to it. It’s just the flavor of the coffee. It’s a game changer. We see the future and we’re running with it now.
